Elisabete Saraiva, whose family has been part of this valley for generations, returned from working in Madrid and London, including her wine studies, to take over the ownership and management of the Quinta. Since her return the wines made at Quinta do Fôjo are now released under the Barderas Familia label to honour the role of women in the estate's history.

The seven-hectare estate occupies a prominent position above the river at Cambres, near Lamego, in the heart of the Douro.

A Private Wine Experience

The Quinta now offers private wine tastings to a handful of guests at a time.

Every visit is hosted personally by Elisabete - most Douro tastings put you in a group of strangers with a guide; at Quinta do Fôjo, you are received as a guest of the family.

We pour our Barderas Familia wines, serve regional food from our own kitchen and olive oil from our own trees. A visit begins in the vineyards and the old granite lagares, where our grapes were trodden for generations and settles in the cozinha dos caseiros - the vineyard workers' kitchen - for a tasting of our Barderas Familia wines paired with regional food. Our reds are grown on our own hillsides and made in collaboration with winemakers we trust; our whites come from a partner grower.

Our Wine Tasting offers an Estate Tasting and a Reserva Tasting.

We can also offer a limited number of rooms for those wishing to experience A Rural Stay in the Douro.

As we are a working farm, please use the form on our Contacts page to enquire about availability.
